Making a new learning model for tomorrow should encompass:
Setting it into motion needs a new language, a positive school culture and relationships between teachers and students as communal learners. The role of teacher needs evolve into that of a facilitator.
New lessons combining multiple subjects as in STEM classrooms and Common Core will continue to drive education away from an assessments-driven model into one that inspires creativity and better prepares students for their future by forging stronger real-world connections.
Barriers
-We are not yet using all of our resources! A survey of STEM educators in 2011 showed that 90% of respondents reported that they do not collaborate or network with others in the STEM initiative. Sharing lessons and founding stronger communities of practice will shape the future of educational reforms and initiatives like STEM and the Common Core to create a broader path of modernization (Brown. R., Brown. K, Reardon, K & Merrill, C, 2011).
